Other Statistics

  • Despite a general misconception, impounded animals are rarely euthanized (at VACS). In 2023, 4% of impounded animals had to be euthanized (7 dogs, 3 cats and 3 other animals.)  The main reasons animals are euthanized are: severe aggression; severe injury or sickness.  Sometimes the animal is in critical distress (often hit by a car) and we are advised by a Veterinarian that euthanasia is the most humane option for the animal.

  • Since 2004, more than 9,000 animals have come through our doors.
