Angela is a very special little cat. She came to us under dire circumstances. Her owner had abandoned her and the rental suite she lived in, and she is struggling to adjust.
I have known Angela since she arrived on March 20th, and we have slowly developed a really nice relationship. She meows when I come in the door, and purrs the whole time I'm in the room with her. She loves cookies and seems to really enjoy being spoken to. If I sit next to her and talk to her, she is very calm and eventually falls asleep purring. However, through all this, Angela is still very afraid of hands. I can't help but guess that she has been mistreated. So, we don't pet, I never touch her. She finds other ways to communicate. We are slowly getting better, and with more time and patience I am confident that we will get to that next step.
Of course, this process is slowed down greatly by being in a pound environment with other cats coming and going, strangers coming in and out, dogs barking in the background. If Angela were in a patient and quiet home, it will be even easier for her to relax.
Angela is waiting for a foster home to open up through one of the rescue groups we work with. In the meantime, we are also hoping that a special adopter will come in and be willing to work with Angela, give her a little space, and allow her a chance to have a trusting and relaxed retirement.
