Nelson

Breed: Domestic Short Hair

Colour: Orange Tabby with White

Age: Adult

Sex: Neutered Male

Nelson had been living stray and competing for food left out by neighbors for at least the past year. He ended up in a fight with a raccoon and was severly beaten up. When he was found, Nelson had open wounds all over his face, neck, front legs, and abdomen. Some of the wounds were abscessed. Thankfully, Nelson went to someone's house who called us right away and he was taken for emergency treatment. He spent a few days under veterinary care, going through surgery to clean and close all his injuries. He must have had at least 50 stitches. After several weeks of medication, being stuck with a cone on and under kennel rest, Nelson has made an amazing recovery and is ready for a loving home.

Even though Nelson has been under our care for a couple of weeks, since he was medicated and confined to his kennel we are just getting to know his true personality now. He is SO happy to have the cone off and be able to explore the pound. He is great with the other cats and is always looking for affection. He loves to be pet and sit on laps. He is just learning how to act around us and what the human world is like.

Although Nelson is very social and very affectionate with pound staff who he knows, he can be defensive when meeting new people. Nelson is still highly sensitive about his front legs. Clearly they caused him a lot of pain, and now if anyone tries to touch them he defends himself with a quick scratch or bite. For this reason he is looking for a home without small children.

We are also looking for a strictly indoor-only home so Nelson never has to defend himself or fight for food again.

* UPDATE APRIL 12: Nelson has now been healthy for a few weeks and he has really relaxed. He has no longer been biting and is very affectionate, especially with those who feed him! He will still need a family who is in tune with cat "signals" like a flicking tail!
