The Adoption Process

If you are interested in adopting a pet from us, please add your name to our adoption wait list. We often have cats available, kittens sometimes, dogs occasionally, puppies rarely and everything else eventually.

Once we have an animal that might be a good match, you will be required to complete an adoption application. The application consists of questions that will help us determine whether you will be a suitable owner for the animal you are applying for. If you are a renter, we will need to contact your landlord to confirm that you are allowed to bring a pet into your home.

The Adoption Coordinator will review your application and if you are approved we will set up a time for you to come meet them. Please note your application may not be processed same day. It generally takes 24-48 hours to process an application.

We are open for adoption viewing at the following times:

Adoption viewing is by appointment only

    Monday - Friday      ► 10:30am to 4:00pm
    Saturday                  ► 11:00am to 4:00pm

Sunday & all Statutory Holidays:   CLOSED

Our cats are "free range" - meaning they make themselves comfortable where they like throughout the office and adoption rooms. We will round up the candidate(s) into the adoption room where you can spend some time getting to know them. If you feel the animal is a good match we will make arrangements for you to bring them home!

Cats and kittens will only be adopted to homes that will keep the cat or kitten indoors at all times or homes that will keep the cat or kitten primarily indoors with fully contained outdoor access (enclosed patio or cat escape proof enclosure). By-law requirements state that cats must be contained to your own private property. If your cat is in public, it must be under the control of a competent person. Cats are not permitted on private property unless you have the permission of the owner or occupier. Fines range from $50 to $150 per violation.

Of course, there is always an adoption fee and if you are adopting a dog, you will also be required to purchase him/her a dog licence. We accept cash, debit and VISA.

Adoption Fees

Your signature is required on the Adoption Contract because you will be making a serious commitment to care and keep the animal in a humane, ethical, responsible and lawful manner for the rest of its life.

We think our Pound & Adoption Centre is a great place for the animals that temporarily live here, but as good as it is, it isn't a home - we need you to provide that!
